Matt feels that right out of the bottle, aromas of dried herbs, perfume, raspberry, plum, and cigar box give an indication of this wines character. With some air in the glass, Josh noted bright red berries with an earthy rhubarb and vanilla bean bouquet with great texture and a long savory finish. Notes of tobacco leaf and sandy gravel that define great Grenache are also abundant after some time in the glass. Similar to our previous offerings, this is a juicy wine with silky mouth-feel and balanced acidity.

The 2013 vintage of Le Mistral Vineyard Grenache reflects the long growing season and moderate temperatures that Monterey County created that year.  Low yields and rugged old vines create a vineyard block that delivers better fruit every year.  As always, we harvested at night to ensure cool fruit at processing, and de-stemmed to fermentation in small bins. We utilized traditional cap management by hand, gentle pressing, and gravity movement (no pumps) to fill older French oak barrels.  This care in the vineyard and cellar has created a wine that is extremely aromatic and expressive of varietal characters, while presenting silky smooth textures and balanced acidity.
