2014 Le Mistral Vineyard Grenache

35.00

Typical of this bottling, but more pronounced this vintage, are notes of lifted strawberry compote, dried straw and marmalade aromas, backed by nuances of dried herbs and cigar box characters.  Josh noted bright red berries and spicy rhubarb in the bouquet with great texture and a long savory finish. Matt noted red plum, tobacco leaf and sandy gravel notes that define great Grenache become abundant after some time in the glass. Similar to our previous offerings, this is a powerfully perfumed cool climate Grenache.

Winemaking Notes:

Our 2014 Le Mistral Vineyard Grenache reflects the long and sunny growing season and moderate temperatures of this vintage in Monterey County.  Low yields, minimalist organic farming, and rugged, old Alban-clone vines contribute to the power and personality of this wine.  As always, we harvested at night to ensure cool fruit at processing, and de-stemmed to fermentation in small bins. We utilized traditional cap management by way of manual punchdowns, gentle pressing, and gravity movement (no pumps) to fill older French oak barrels for aging.  This care in the vineyard and cellar has created a wine that is extremely aromatic and expressive of varietal character, while presenting silky smooth textures and bright balanced acidity.
