Tasting Notes:

Matt describes the nose of this wine as rose petal and perfume with fresh strawberry and red cherries.  Josh also noted bright and clean floral and berry compote aromas, and a classic earthy Pommard signature.  They both agree that this wine is the most Burgundian Baker & Brain Pinot Noir to date, with structured acidity on the mid-palate, and an extremely long chalky mineral finish.  After time in the glass, more powerful cherry fruit and darker earth notes emerge, further indicating the extreme aging potential of this wine for those of you with patience to spare.

Winemaking Notes:

Stolo Vineyard, a small family owned plot near Cambria CA, is just 2 miles from the Pacific.  This extremely cool coastal climate provides a long consistent growing season with bright sunny days, but bracingly cool evenings.  We harvested our Pommard clone when flavors showed tart red fruit and bright acidity associated with more traditional Pinot Noir from Burgundy.  Clusters were hand harvested, destemmed gently to small fermentation bins, and fermented using traditional hand punchdowns.  The resulting wine shows an elegance and purity that is difficult to achieve in warmer California vineyard sites.   Careful processing and intense but balanced acidity ensure that this wine will age well for decades to come.
