2015 Grüner Veltliner

27.00

More expressive and aromatic than the 2014 vintage, this 2015 offering is our most explosive and pure Gruner Veltliner to date.  Jasmine and citrus fruit once again dominate the nose, with supporting perfume, grain and gravel notes.  In the glass, green apple and white peach compliment the big floral character of this wine.  With aeration, more subtle notes of grapefruit, copper pot and wet stone emerge. Mouth sensations are fresh and crisp with razor edge acidity and a lively finish.

Winemaking notes:

The Paragon Vineyard in the cool Edna Valley is an ideal site for Gruner Veltliner.  An Austrian variety, Gruner thrives in cooler areas with relatively low over-night temperatures.  Ours is grown in a hilly area just across the way from the winery.  The fruit is hand-picked and pressed gently before 48 hours of cool settling.  Following racking, the wine is put down immediately to neutral French barrels where fermentation will take place.  After a long, cool fermentation in barrel, the wines are brought up to stainless for a short maturation period before being bottled under screw cap to capture and preserve every bit of the fresh, vibrant aromatics this wine is known for.
