2016 Stolo Vineyard Chardonnay

32.00

The fresh citrus and floral aromatics, and bright acidity of this wine speak for the cool, extremely coastal growing site.  Lemon oil, fuji apple, and soft white flowers can be found in the perfumed fruit driven bouquet, while French oak and barrel stirring contribute hazelnut and fresh baked bread notes.  The mouthfeel is bright with acidity, but dense and rich at the same time, leading to a long complex finish.  The balanced ripeness and bold character of this wine really represents the Baker & Brain house style.  Like our other varieties, this Chardonnay is approachable and expressive now, but will continue to develop complexity and character for years to come.  Enjoy this wine with most any mid-weight food, such as almost any seafood, carnitas tacos, Chicken salad or just your favorite cheeses.

Winemaking:

The fruit for Baker & Brain’s first ever Chardonnay was sourced from one of our favorite cool-climate Central Coast locations; Stolo Vineyard in Cambria.  Meticulously hand farmed and harvested, this tiny privately owned property, just a few miles from the Pacific, has provided us with a great example of cool climate California Chard.  Fruit handling included whole-cluster basket pressing, fermentation in a combination of new French oak and older French oak barrels, and intermittent lees stirring to build mouthfeel and complex secondary notes.
